What it is:
SkinPen microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that uses a device with fine needles to create thousands of controlled micro-injuries in the skin. These microchannels stimulate your body’s natural wound-healing process, promoting collagen and elastin production. SkinPen is FDA-cleared and often used to improve the appearance of acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles, and overall skin texture and tone.
What to Expect:
Before the Procedure:
- Your provider will cleanse your skin and apply a topical numbing cream for comfort.
- Numbing typically takes 20–30 minutes to fully take effect.
During the Procedure:
- The SkinPen device is gently moved across your face in a pattern.
- You may feel a light buzzing or scratching sensation, but discomfort is usually minimal due to the numbing.
- The treatment typically takes 30–45 minutes.
After the Procedure:
- Skin will appear red, similar to a mild sunburn, and feel tight or warm for 1–2 days.
- Some people may experience slight swelling, dryness, or flaking.
- Downtime is minimal—most redness resolves in 24–72 hours.
- Avoid makeup, heavy skincare, sun exposure, and sweating for 24–48 hours.
Results:
- Skin starts to feel smoother and firmer within a week.
- Improvements in tone, texture, and scarring become more visible after 3–4 weeks.
- A series of 3–6 treatments (spaced about 4–6 weeks apart) is often recommended for best results
